Tornados lose a heartbreaker in overtimeAugust 30, 2009
Brevard, N.C. – After warming up in a torrential downpour, the Tornados played a hard fought game in the mud, and despite rallying to take the lead in the second period with a penalty kick goal from senior Ian Townson and freshman Chris Landrik-Larsen’s second career goal, the Tornados fell 3-2 in over time to Pfeiffer.
The loss drops Brevard’s record to 0-2 while Pfeiffer improved to 2-0.
The Falcons scored their first goal 36:42 into the game when Alex Landim took a pass from Wilver Menacho and nailed one out of Jack Shaw’s reach.
Ian Townson and the Tornados responded in the second period on a penalty kick. The Tornados had worked the ball into Ian Townson in the box when Pfeiffer was called for a foul. Townson took the penalty kick and booted it out of Alex Moreno’s reach to knot the game 1-1.
Fourteen minutes later, the Tornados took the lead on freshman Chris Landrik-Larsen’s second goal of the season. Jonathan deCock his first assist of the season on the play.
Brevard’s 2-1 lead was short lived. Kash Knight and Pfeiffer responded and tied the game 2-2 with six minutes left to play in regulation.
The Falcons ended the game just fifteen seconds into the overtime when Boo Tesh scored the game winner. Alex Landim received an assist on the play to go along with his goal.
Jack Shaw saved three of the six shots he faced while the Falcon’s keeper, Alex Moreno saved two of four.
The Tornados are back in action on Friday, September 4 when they travel to play UNC-Asheville.
