The Eagles defeat the Tornados 4-1
Rock Hill, S.C. - Senior Craig Galloway scored for the second game in a row for Brevard’s only goal as the Tornados fell to Division I opponent, Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. Winthrop’s Matthew Skonicki scored twice and added an assist for the Eagles to lift the Eagles over the Tornados 4-1.
Win the win, Winthrop improved to 3-1 while the Tornados fell to 1-5.
Galloway’s goal put the Tornados up 1-0 in the 36th minute when he shot the ball over the keepers’ head from 35 yards out. The goal would be the only Tornado shot in the first period to the Eagles eight shots.
Winthrop jumped on the Tornados scoring three goals within three minutes to begin the second. First, Andrew Murphy headed a goal in for the Eagles off of passes from Skonicki and Matt Horn in the 54th minute.
Then the Eagles struck again in the 56th minute when Michael Luk had a header goal of his own off of a free kick following a Brevard foul. Then Matthew Skonicki headed his first goal of the game into the net at 57:05 off of a Daniel DiBiagio corner kick to quickly put the Eagles up 3-1.
The Eagles scored once more in the 77th minute when Skonicki headed in his second goal of the game off of a corner kick from Tomas Brennan to make the score 4-1.
Goalkeeper Jack Shaw faced nine shots on goal and saved five.
The Tornados only two shots of the game came from Craig Galloway as the Tornados were outshot 18-2.
Brevard begins conference play Wednesday, September 16, when Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Brevard for a 4 p.m. match.
