Tornados bow out in straight sets
Brevard, N.C. - The Tornados completed their five-game home-stand this afternoon in Boshamer Gymnasium, hosting South Atlantic Conference opponent Tusculum College. Brooke Seaman had seven kills to lead Brevard in the match, but the Tornados were unable to overcome the double-digit efforts posted by Gina Coffaro and Bailee Price in falling, 25-16, 25-13 and 25-10.
For the season, Brevard falls to 11-8, 1-7 in the South Atlantic Conference, while Tusculum improves to 13-9, 4-4 in conference play.
Seaman, the Tornados preseason First Team All-SAC selection, added a game-high three blocks to her kill total for the afternoon, while Bethany Stevenson added five kills and Jamie Atkinson placed in four.
Stevenson also handled the primary setting duties for the Tornados, recording 18 assists on the game, while Cori Emory led the team from the backline with 10 digs.
Coffaro fired in 13 kills to lead all hitters on the afternoon for Tusculum and Price added 10 of her own as the Pioneers hit 46.0% for the match.
Peyton Colclough was a huge part of the attack with 39 assists on the match, while Coffaro pulled double duty with 13 digs on the afternoon.
The Tornados are back in action on Tuesday, October 13th as they continue South Atlantic Conference play on the road, heading down to Newberry, S.C. to take on host Newberry College. First serve for the match is set for 7 p.m.
Tusculum returns home to Pioneer Arena to host Mars Hill, also on October 13th, with first serve coming at 7 p.m.
