In the first set Wingate opened with a 9-3 lead as four Brevard attack errors put the Tornados in the hole early.
The Tornados battled back behind Larsen, Seaman and Trojan to keep the deficit at six at 14-8.
The deficit was cut to five at 20-15 as Schoonover served an ace after a kill placed by Atkinson down the right line, forcing a Wingate timeout.
Brevard further cut the lead to four at 22-18 after a ball handling error by Bulldogs’ Amanda Clark, but Wingate scored three of the last four points capped by Stormi Gale’s kill to close out the set in favor of the Bulldogs, 25-19.
Megan Street provided an early spark for Brevard in the second set, coming off the bench and recording two kills early as the Tornados rallied from being down 4-1 to bringing the game back to 5-4 before a Wingate timeout.
Wingate responded from the timeout with a 12-5 run led by Lauren Billo’s three kills to go up 17-9.
Kills by Seaman, Larsen and Atkinson slowed the Wingate run, but the Bulldogs would ride out the lead to go up 2-0 after the 25-14 set win.
The Tornados attempted to stage a comeback in the third set as Seaman recorded five kills and Osby added three of her own, but a kill by Billo ended the match, 25-15.
With the loss, the Tornados 2009 season ends. Brevard graduates five seniors, Megan Street, Cori Emory, Brooke Seaman, Christin Johnston and Chelsey Trojan, but returns many key players for next season including sophomores Jordei Osby, who finished second in the SAC in blocks per game and Chelsea Larsen and junior libero Rebecca Schoonover as the Tornados finish the season with a 15-15 record.
