Brevard downed 78-67 by conference leader Lenoir-Rhyne

Brevard, N.C. - Samantha Winn led the Tornados for the eleventh straight game with 15 points, along with Brianna Worley who also scored 15 for Brevard. Cameron Sealey led the first place Lenoir-Rhyne Bears with 18 points and three steals, en route to a 78-67 victory over the Tornados Wednesday night in Boshamer Gymnasium.

The win moves Lenoir-Rhyne into first place in the conference with a 3-0 SAC record and 10-3 overall record, while the Tornados fall to 0-3 in the SAC and 5-6 overall.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored the first nine points of the game and then continued their run, leading the Tornados 22-3 through the first ten minutes of play.

Led by Worley’s four for six performance from beyond the arc, and a spark from a group of freshman Brevard cut the Bears’ lead to eleven in the first half before ending the half down 39-23. Worley was the only Tornado player in the first half to score more than two.

Winn, who had just two points and no rebounds in the first half came back after the intermission scoring 13 and grabbing three rebounds, while Anna Schlobohm, who also had just two points in the first half, scored 11 in the second helping Brevard pull back with in seven points in the half.

In addition to Sealey, Lenoir-Rhyne had two additional players in double figures, Denise Moore with 16, and Brittany Mitch with 11.
The Bears also out rebounded the Tornados 38-19 led by Amber Holt with seven, but were outshot by Brevard from the free throw line and three point arc.

Freshman, Tempestt Mack led the home team in rebounds pulling down five.

Brevard is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Harrogate, Tenn. for another conference match against Lincoln-Memorial University at 2:00 p.m.
