Tornados fall in season opener, 15-3February 10, 2010
Moman hits two run blast in loss
Anderson, S.C. - The Tornados opened their 2010 season at Anderson Wednesday afternoon. Brevard jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning but the Trojans took advantage of some Brevard defensive miscues in ultimately prevailing, 15-3.
BC opened the game with a two-run first inning courtesy of a two-run homer from Kellen Moman after Kramer Clark was hit by a pitch with two out in the first inning. Jacob White struck out Anderson’s Ryan Saxon swinging with two out and one on to end the first.
Brevard threatened again as Ronald Patterson and Stephen Renegar walked in the Tornados half of the second inning but Clark struck out looking with two out to end the threat.
Anderson responded with two runs to tie the game in their half of the second. Matt Hill and Blake May notched consecutive singles. A Brett Scarberry sacrifice moved the runners to second and third. Jonathan Romano reached on a fielder’s choice, with May going to third and Hill being thrown out at home by Matthew Pruitt. Thomas Prado singled to drive in May for the Trojans first run. Derek Hipp reached on an error by Kramer allowing Romano to score.
The Trojans tacked on two more in the bottom of the third to take a 4-2 lead. Trent Still and Saxon hit consecutive doubles sandwiched around a Matt Ennis passed ball. The next two Trojans struck out swinging before Scarberry reached on an error by Moman allowing Saxon to score.
The Trojans busted the game open in their half of the fourth, scoring 11 runs on eight hits. Trent Still blasted a two-run homer off new Brevard pitcher Jessie Reid. Tony Prado then drove in three runs off of Brennen Daniels.
Brevard added a final run in the sixth inning on a Jackie Corn single that drove in Matthew Pruitt from second base.
Brevard plays for the first time in the 2010 season at Gil Coan Field on Saturday, February 13, against Mercyhurst in a doubleheader starting at noon. The series concludes with a 1:00 p.m. game Sunday. Brevard swept the Lakers last season. Anderson next plays against Erskine on February 12.
