Wingate led only three times through out the game. Stacie Rhodes laid the ball in for the first points of the game at the 19:46 mark, and an Erica Crumlin sank a jumper at the 15:19 mark, accounting for the Bulldogs only leads of the game before Washington’s buzzer beater gave them the win.
Brevard led by as many as 11 points in the first half, as Amber Roberts shot 67 percent from 3-point range (2-3), and two for two from the free throw line to lead the Tornados with eight first half points. Amanda Whitaker followed with seven points.
Both teams shot below 35 percent from the field in the first half, but Brevard shot 45 percent (5-11) from beyond the arc to the Bulldogs’ 20 percent, while shooting 87 percent (7-8) from the free throw line in the first half, and 90 percent in the second half to average 88.9 percent, a new season high.

Brevard continued to dominate into the second half, as Alyssa Cutshaw sank a three a minute in, followed by Winn foul shots to regain an 11 point lead.
Winn who had just two points in the first half shot six for six from the free throw line in the second, and added a 3 point field goal at the 12:58 mark to give the Tornados their biggest lead of the game at 15. Winn also added two jumpers to total 13 second half points.
At the 12:58 mark, Washington sank a 3-point shot that spurred a 20-6 run that cut Brevard’s lead to two with 0:57 remaining.
Roberts then sank a three of her own to give the Tornados a two possession lead, but Washington who scored 20 of her 24 in the second half, scored back to back to pull Wingate within one point with 1.7 seconds remaining.
The Tornados called two time outs clinging to the one point lead with possession under the Bulldogs’ basket. As Wingate laid on a full court press, Winn’s inbound pass went wide right of Whitaker and out of bounds giving the Bulldogs possession of the ball, under their own basket, down by one, with 1.7 still remaining on the clock.
Sarah Wollet, who led the Bulldogs with four assists, found Washington cutting through the key for the layup and last second, 57-56 win.
