Tornados fall to Pioneers behind Moore's 32 points

Roper has 15 for Brevard in loss

Greeneville, Tenn. - Josh Roper led three Tornados in double figures with 15 points, but Brevard was unable to overcome Kyle Moore’s nine three-pointers in falling on Saturday afternoon to Tusculum, 68-52.

Roper was seven of 17 from the floor in the game to lead Brevard (17-8, 9-5 SAC) in the game and dished out a team high three assists. Sam Carlisle added 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Nathan Whitmire scored 10 points and added five rebounds in the game as the Tornados connected on 42.9 percent of their field goal attempts in the contest.

Moore led the Pioneers (16-10, 10-5 SAC) with 32 points, 27 coming from behind the arc. Rob Troutman added 15 points and six rebounds, while Justin Steigerwald handed out seven assists in the game for the Pioneers as they shot 43.5 percent from behind the arc as a team.

The first half was hotly contested as the game was tied four times, while the lead changed hands on seven occasions. With the score tied 21-21 with 5:25 left in the first period, Moore and Troutman connected on three-pointers as Tusculum would later take a 30-25 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Brevard whittled the deficit to one following back-to-back jumpers by Roper and Carlisle as Tusculum led 34-33 with 13:43 remaining. The Pioneers responded with 15-5 spurt, all coming on five 3-pointers by Moore as Tusculum vaulted out to a 49-38 lead with 9:11 left on the clock.

Tusculum would maintain its double-digit lead down the stretch as the Pioneers made its last 10 free throws in the final four minutes of the contest.

The Tornados return home on Wednesday, February 24th, as they host Newberry College in Boshamer Gymnasium for the Brevard "Blackout" game. Tipoff for the game between the SAC foes is set for 8 p.m.
