Brevard, N.C. - The 2nd BC Mountain Invitational tournament concluded with many positives for the Brevard College Men’s Tennis Team as several players reached championship matches on Sunday against opponents from UNC Asheville, Tusculum, Wingate and Lee University.

Recapping Saturday and Sunday’s action, in the singles A flight Jarred Fisher fell in the quarterfinals to Tusculum’s Rodrieguez, 6-3, 6-4. However, he bounced back in the backdraw to defeat Lvovsky from Wingate to reach the finals. However, Rees from Tusculum prevailed, 6-0, 6-2. On the other side of the bracket Andrew Thompson faced off with Wingate’s Patchell in the quarterfinals and advanced after a 1-6, 6-2, 12-10 victory. However, Thompson fell to the eventual A draw champion Pamokchiyan from Lee, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5.

In early action on Saturday in the singles B flight, Cole Altizer fell against UNC Asheville’s White, 6-1, 7-6. He joined fellow BC teammate Konstantin Savelyev in the backdraw where they both advanced to the finals after Savelyev made it off Saa from Lee retired after the first set and Altizer defeated Tusculum’s Claton 3-6, 6-3, 10-8. In the matchup between Tornados it was Altizer who emerged victorious in a three set match, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.

In the singles C flight, Shane Apps continued his winning ways from Friday as he started off defeating Guaycurus from Tusculum in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals against TC’s Lin. Apps advanced to the C flight finals after Lin retired in the third set of the match. However, Apps could not keep it up, bowing out to Beal from Tusculum in the second set of the match. Nate Lyles was also in the C flight, falling in the quarterfinals to UNC Asheville’s Sedov, 7-6, 6-3. In the backdraw Lyles played against Wingate’s Villaroel, but succumbed in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.

Continuing the doubles play from Friday, in the Doubles A flight backdraw, BC’s Thompson and Savelyev fell to eventual backdraw champion Rees and Kiser from Tusculum, 8-6.

In the B flight backdraw Sam Johnston and Lyles faced Rodriguez and Beal from Tusculum, falling 8-2.

The BC Men’s Tennis team is back in action on October 10-11 when they host teams from Covenant College and Milligan College.
