Brevard, N.C. - Scott McCormick became the first BC men’s tennis player to be recognized in the ITA National rankings as the senior from Adelaide, Australia was selected as #38 in the latest ITA rankings as released on May 3rd.
The Tornados no. 1 singles for the past two years, McCormick accumulated an overall record of 18-3 in singles competition, going 7-2 in SAC play during the regular season. McCormick also went 16-5 in doubles competition, teaming up with both Sam MacNeil and Beau Wills for the 2011 season under Coach Nicole Bumgarner.
Highlights from McCormick’s senior season include victories over two nationally ranked opponents in Anderson’s Stan Atema (#56) and Wingate’s Matthew Lichtenstein (#58), as well as victories over NCAA Division I opponents from Furman University and UNC Asheville.
McCormick finishes his career with the Tornados with a 30-10 record in singles play after transferring to Brevard from Wichita State University, and he was 23-19 overall in doubles play.
The BC men’s tennis team went 14-8 overall in the 2011 season, finishing in a three-way tie for second in the South Atlantic Conference regular season standings. Brevard advanced to the semifinals of the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tennis tournament before falling to eventual tournament champion Anderson University.
