TORNADOS ADD SIX TO 2011-2012 SIGNING CLASS

Dodd, Hopper, Redic, Simmons, Warren and Worth all commit to Brevard College

Brevard, N.C. - Head Coach Michael Jones, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department, is pleased to announce the addition of six to the 2011-2012 Brevard College Men’s Basketball team.

Blake Dodd, Jonathan Hopper, Matthew Redic, Gerel Simmons, Taylor Warren and David Worth have all committed to play on the Tornados men’s basketball team for the 2011-2012 basketball season.

Blake Dodd joins the Tornados from Thomasville, N.C., where he played at East Davidson High School under Coach Matt Jacobs. Dodd was an All-Conference and All-County performer in his junior and senior seasons and scored his 1,000th career point in his senior season. Dodd also played on the Golden Eagles’ football team. He is the son of Jennifer Dodd.

Jonathan Hopper joins the Tornados from Miami, Fla. where he played at Tuscola High School under Coach Messer. Hopper was a three year starter on the varsity squad and received the Heart Award his senior year. Hopper was also an All-Conference performer received the Most Improved award following his sophomore season. Off the court, Hopper was an NC Academic Scholar. He is the son of Arden Hopper.

Matthew Redic joins the Tornados from Durham, N.C. where he played at Northern Durham High School under Coach Russell. Redic was the MVP of the NC Jaguars AAU – 17U team in 2011 and also played on the Northern Durham baseball team. He is the son of Patricia Redic.

Gerel Simmons joins the Tornados from Accokeek, Md. Where he played at North Point High School under Coach Jimmy Ball. Simmons was a member of the 4A State Championship team his season year and was selected to the SMAC All-Star Game. He also was an All-Conference selection and captain of the team, In addition to basketball, Simmons was also a member of the Eagles’ Cross Country team. Off the court, Simmons was awarded the 4 year completed Air Force Junior ROTC Senior Master Sergeant. He is the son of Gary and Sintrel Simmons.

Taylor Warren joins the Tornados from Thomasville, N.C., where he played at East Davidson High School under Coach Matt Jacobs. Warren was the Conference Player of the Year in 2011 and was an All-Conference and All-County performer. Warren also participated on the Golden Eagles’ football and baseball teams. He is the son of Bill and Lisa Warren.

David Worth joins the Tornados from Midland, N.C. where he played at Hickory Ridge High School under Coach Robert Machado. Off the court, Worth was a member of the A/B Honor Roll. He is the son of Rhonda and James Worth.
