Mount Olive, N.C. - Gaither Hendrix again broke the 20 point barrier and Darius Moose added 12 points and six rebounds, but an early surge by Barton used a 27-8 run in the first half to take control of the contest as the Tornados fell in the final day of the 46th annual Mount Olive College Pickle Classic to the Bulldogs, 89-55.
Hendrix and Moose combined for 15 points in the second half in the Brevard (0-5) attempted comeback and the duo went a combined 14-for-14 from the free throw line as the Tornados shot 80.6 percent (25-31) from the charity stripe as a team, but Barton (4-1) forced 27 Brevard turnovers which led to 25 Bulldog points in the victory.
Hendrix led all scorers with 20 points in the game, going 5-for-9 from the floor and 8-for-8 from the free throw line in his second consecutive 20 point game and third in the first five games of the season. Moose added 12 points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line and added two blocked shots, while Jermichael Tanner added a team high seven rebounds and added six points in the loss.
Jalen Haley led Barton with a team high 16 points while Jon Hart provided a double-double off the bench for the Bulldogs, scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in the victory. Aaron Suggs added 15 points and Gerald Boston had 11 points and eight assists in the win.
Aleksandar Vasiljevic scored first for Brevard, going in for the layup at the 19:17 mark, but Jarrett Jernigan followed with a jumper to tie the game up as Barton opened the contest scoring 31 of the first 43 points in the game on their way to building a 59-32 halftime lead.
The Tornados rallied in the second half as Hendrix scored nine consecutive points for Brevard over a three minute stretch, cutting the lead down to 73-48 with 10:56 to play in the contest, but the Tornados were unable to complete the comeback in falling short to Barton, 89-55.
Brevard remains on the road as they travel to Asheville, N.C. on Monday, November 21st to take on NCAA Division I UNC Asheville. Tipoff in Kimmel Arena between the Tornados and the Bulldogs is set for 7 p.m.
