Brevard, N.C. - Brittany Tucker had a pair of hits and Kayla Clemens drove a double as the Tornados hosted the Trojans in their South Atlantic Conference home opener on Tuesday afternoon, but Anderson proved to be victorious in both contests, sweeping Brevard on the BC Softball field, 3-0 and 8-0.
Brevard falls to 10-14, 1-3 SAC on the season, while Anderson improves to 22-4, 3-1 in conference action.
Game One: Anderson 3, Brevard 0
Danielle Swygert drove in two runs in the first game of the doubleheader to pace the visiting Trojans over the Tornados in support of Larissa Ostapiak shutout on the mound as Anderson opened the afternoon with the 3-0 victory.
The Trojans plated a run in the first inning of the contest as Jessica Neidigh scored on a passed ball to put Anderson on the board.
Anderson added runs in both the fifth and the seventh frames as well as Swygert singled in Rebecca Martin for the second run and doubled in Neidigh for the third run to provide the Trojans all the runs they needed against the Tornados in the contest.
Brevard threatened to break the shutout in the bottom of the seventh as Clemens led off the inning with a double to centerfield. The Tornados loaded the bases with two outs as Emily Boykin and Brittany Fowler drew walks, but Brevard was unable to break the shutout in falling to the Trojans.
Game Two: Anderson 8, Brevard 0 (5 inn.)
The Trojans plated runs in each of the five innings in the contest and Amber Duncan pitched a two-hitter for the guests as Anderson recorded the conference sweep over the Tornados.
Bri Cason and Duncan provided the majority of the damage in the contest, driving in three runs apiece, while Abby Child scored three times in the contest for Anderson. Chelsi Mallory and Brittany Jones recorded singles for the Tornados offense in the contest as Brevard falls to 1-3 in SAC play on the year.
Brevard remains at home as they stay in South Atlantic Conference play by welcoming Lincoln Memorial University to the BC Softball Field on Saturday, March 17th. First pitch between the Tornados and the Railsplitters is set for 1 p.m.
