Newton, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational in Newton, North Carolina on Saturday. The men placed 4th out of a field of nine teams, and the women took 6th out of a field of 10 teams.
Freshman Dakota Poindexter led the way for the Tornados, finishing the 8K course in 8th place with a time of 27:40.01. Patrick Helmick (28:03.14), Jordan Tager (28:15.43) and Josh Mower (28:16.31) all finished in the top 20 for BC.
"I was proud of our men's team,” said head coach Thomas Cason. “They ran well as a team, and all improved from the previous week."
The women’s team saw junior Angela Canale and freshman Hannah Cook both finish in the top 10, at 6th and 7th, respectively. Canale ran the 5K course in 20:27.10 to pace the BC women, while Cook finished just behind with a time of 20:27.20.
"I was proud of our women's team,” Cason said. “They all improved from last week and their hard work is paying off."
The BC cross country teams are back in action at the Montreat Invitational on Saturday, September 15th.
