Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s soccer team was upended 2-1 by Virginia Intermont College on a Cobras goal at 86:24 on Saturday afternoon.
Virginia Intermont’s Shawn Williams dropped a pass into the zone to Jose Robio, who chipped the ball over the outstretched arms of BC keeper Jack Shaw high to the right side of the goal.
Marcelo Betcer had tied the game at 1-1 just before the conclusion of the first half at 41:15. Efren D. Escobar and Junior Montano were both credited with assists on the scoring play.
Escobar received the ball in the corner before feeding it to Montano, who found Betcer streaking up the right sideline. Betcer dribbled past his defender to the right prior to beating the goalie low towards the right post.
The Cobras were the first to score, gaining 1-0 lead on a Robio goal at 30:04. The freshman collected a pass from Yannick Chiepodeu and dribbled into the box before firing into the top of the net for his first goal on the afternoon.
The Tornados put seven shots on goal to Virginia Intermont’s four, and outshot the Cobras 18-to-11 in the game.
The Tornados men’s soccer team celebrated the careers of their five seniors with a ceremony at halftime. Goalkeeper Jack Shaw, defender Ryan Guill, defender Joel Jalanne, defender Alec Darcey, and midfielder Landon Reid were all escorted to midfield and recognized for their accomplishments both on and off the field during their careers at Brevard College.
The Brevard College Tornados return to South Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday, October 23rd as they host the Newberry Wolves at 4 p.m.
