Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears in their final home match of the season in Boshamer Gymnasium on Tuesday night, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-11.
Brevard edged the Bears in the first set after rallying from an 11-6 deficit to open the match. The Tornados tied the Bears at 13-13 and later 16-16 before finally gaining a solid lead. The Tornados enjoyed a 5-1 run fueled by four Kortney Conner service aces to take a 21-17 lead. A Lenoir-Rhyne attack error clinched the set victory for BC.
The Bears took over control of the game following the first set, winning each of the next three sets by an increasing margin. Lenoir-Rhyne’s Ashley Wells finished with a match-high 13 kills while Meredith Lutz tallied 37 assists and 14 digs.
Kortney Conner led the way for the Tornados, contributing nine kills and seven digs. Junior Kayla Hanus also turned in another solid performance for BC, contributing 30 assists and seven digs.
The Tornados will visit Tusculum College to take on the Pioneers at Pioneer Arena on Friday, November 9th at 7 p.m. Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile, will head to Eleazer Arena to take on the Lions of Mars Hill Friday at 7 p.m.
