TORNADOS COME UP SHORT AGAINST GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN

Americus, Ga.- The Brevard College men’s basketball team was edged 67-62 by the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday afternoon in the Storm Dome.

The Tornados were within striking distance in the final minutes of play against the Hurricanes, but Georgia Southwestern was able to hit enough free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Junior guard Dominique Pickett dropped in a game-high 22 points to lead the Tornados, adding five assists and three rebounds on the night.

The Hurricanes scored the first seven points of the game, but BC answered with a 15-8 run to tie the game at 15-15 on Pickett three-pointer at the 8:07 mark in the opening half.

The two teams traded baskets before the Hurricanes closed the half on a 14-5 run to take a 12-point lead into halftime.

Alan Arnett led the Hurricanes with 14 points and seven rebounds. Austin Kelly and Jamon Hawkins each scored 12 points for Georgia Southwestern.

Sophomore Gerel Simmons had 15 points for the Toranados, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Freshman Manzey Miller was active on the defensive end for the Tornados, collecting four steals to go along with five points and three rebounds.

The Tornados will be back in action Wednesday, November 14 as they host the North Greenville Crusaders at 7 pm.
