Brevard, N.C.- Gerel Simmons connected on a game-winning three pointer as time expired to lift the Brevard College Tornados to a 91-90 victory over the Mars Hill Lions in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday evening.

Dominique Pickett secured the rebound of a Mars Hill missed free throw with just over four seconds remaining in the game, and the Tornados immediately called a timeout to setup of the game-winning play.

BC inbounded the ball underneath the Mars Hill basket coming out of the timeout, and got the ball into the hands of Manzey Miller. Streaking sideline to sideline, Miller caught the ball in stride and found Simmons waiting in the far corner with an open look for the win.

Simmons had the hot hand for the Tornados, shooting 5-of-7 from beyond the arc to finish with a season-high 22 points.

Mars Hill had taken a three-point lead on a Kevin Haynes layup with 1:35 remaining in the game, before a jumper by Miller at 1:01 brought the Tornados within a point at 89-88. Miller then fouled Will White to stop the clock.

White hit his first free throw to make it 90-88, but missed the second to set the stage for the Tornados late-game heroics.

The Tornados had five players score in double figures, and Dominique Pickett led all scorers with 24 points to go along with nine assists and six rebounds.  Miller finished with 14 points, while Miles Leather and Alex Moe finished with 13 and 11, respectively.

The Tornados return to action on Tuesday night as they visit the Winthrop Eagles in the Winthrop Coliseum at 7 p.m.
