Wingate, N.C.- The Brevard College men's basketball team dropped a 78-57contest to the Wingate Bulldogs in Cuddy Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Tornados opened the second half with nine unanswered points to pull within three of Wingate on a Matt Ward layup at 16:31, but the Tornados struggled to match the Bulldogs depth down the stretch.
Wingate answered BC's 9-0 run with a 13-2 run that spanned just over five minutes midway through the second half, and allowed the Bulldogs to pad a double-digit lead. Wingate has won five straight games, and is off to a 6-0 start in South Atlantic Conference play.
Odell Turner had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Wingate, while fellow senior Paidrick Matilus added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Dominque Pickett had 13 of his 15 points in the first half, helping to keep BC in the game in the first half. The Tornados yielded an 11-4 run to end the opening half, and went into the break trailing 46-34.
Miles Leathers added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Alex Moe had 10 points and four assists.
The Tornados return to action as they host the Newberry Wolves in Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
