Young Harris, Ga.- The Brevard College Tornados earned a split in their four-game series with the Young Harris Mountain Lions over the weekend, falling 18-4 in Sunday afternoon’s series finale at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, beginning with a leadoff homer by sophomore Spencer Thomas.

Brevard starter Zach Joyce (L, 0-1) surrendered five earned runs in less than an inning of work before he was relieved in favor of Thomas Brown.

The Tornados plated two runs in the top of the 4th inning after Bennett Hixson led off with a single and scored on a Kody Spencer double to left center. Spencer then advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a Matt Proffitt infield single.

The Mountain Lions answered with three runs in their half of the 4th to take an 8-2 lead, thanks to a pair of errors by the Tornados.

The Mountain Lions scored 10 runs over the next three innings against four different BC relievers, pushing the game out of reach for the Tornados.

Young Harris starter Adam Moore (W, 1-0) earned the win, allowing two earned runs over six innings on the mound.

The Tornados and Mountain Lions meet twice more in 2013, first on March 13th and again on March 27th. Both games are at Brevard’s Gil Coan Field.

The Tornados are back in action as they visit the Pfeiffer Falcons on Tuesday in Misenheimer, N.C. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
