Young Harris, Ga.- The Brevard College baseball team split their doubleheader with the Young Harris Mountain Lions on Saturday afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field, winning the first game 9-2 before dropping the second game 5-4.
Game One – Brevard 9, Young Harris 2
The Tornados struck first with a run in the 4th and two more in the 5th to take a 3-0 lead in support of BC starter Brennan Daniels (W, 1-0).
Christian Christopoulos' sac fly scored Champ Stuart to put the Tornados on the board in the 4th. The Tornados scored on an RBI single by Bennett Hixson and an RBI groundout by Alex McGee in the 5th.
Daniels didn't allow an earned run in his first start of 2013, striking out six during five innings on the hill for the Tornados.
The Tornados picked up a run in the 7th on a McGee RBI single, and erupted for five runs in the top of the 9th. Alex McGee led the way for BC, finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBI's.
Reliever James Phillips (S, 1) held the Mountain Lions scoreless over the final four innings to earn the save
Game Two - Young Harris 5, Brevard 4
The Mountain Lions prevailed in walkoff fashion after the Tornados rallied for two runs to tie the game in the top of the 7th in an abbreviated game.
Aaron Goforth singled to lead off the 7th and scored on a Young Harris fielding error to make it 4-3. Champ Stuart, who reached on an infield single, scored the tying run on a Christopoulos sacrifice fly.
The Mounain Lions, however, had an answer in their half of the 7th. Trey Rogers started the winning rally with a single and moved to second on sac bunt by Jack Morrow. After an intentional walk to Adam Moore, Zach Bricknell singled on a 2-2 pitch to score Rogers from second base and lift the Mountain Lions to a 5-4 win.
The Tornados and Mountain Lions finish their four-game series on Sunday afternoon.
