Newberry, S.C.- The Brevard College women’s basketball team fell 72-44 to the Newberry College Wolves on Wednesday night in Eleazer Arena.
The Tornados were unable to stay with the Wolves despite Tuccoa Brackett and Micheala Watkins combining for 30 points for the Tornados. Brackett tallied a team-high 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds while Watkins added four assists and three steals to 14 points.
Newberry opened the contest on a 13-4 run and were able to establish a size advantage over Brevard early. Six-foot Newberry center Devanee Taylor posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Zara Pearson led the Wolves offensively with 18 points, connecting on 6-of-9 shots from the floor and 4-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc. Both Pearson and Taylor had 10 points in the first half.
The Wolves closed the first half on a 15-5 run to put them up 39-24 after the first 20 minutes of action.
The Tornados return to Boshamer Gymnasium as they host the Wingate University Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs held off a second-half BC rally to take the first contest 63-59 in Cuddy Arena on January 19th.
