Newberry, S.C.- The Brevard College men’s basketball team couldn’t keep up with the Newberry Wolves in a 75-56 loss in Eleazer Arena on Wednesday night despite BC's Gerel Simmons leading all scorers with 26 points.
Simmons finished 10-of-17 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range while grabbing five rebounds. Miles Leathers was the only other Tornado in double figures with 14 points.
The Tornados and Wolves traded baskets early in the game until, with the game tied at 16-16, the Wolves scored 12 unanswered points to take a 28-16 lead on a three by Mitch Riggs.
The Tornados closed the half on a 14-7 run to pull within five at the break, but that’s the closest the Tornados came to catching Newberry as the the Wolves opened the second half on a 12-4 run and went on to lead by as many as 25 in the game.
Dondray Walker scored 24 points to lead a Newberry scoring attack that saw four players reach double figures. Riggs finished with 18 while Brandon Riley and Demarkus Smith each had 10 points for the Wolves.
The Tornados look to rebound as they host the Wingate University Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m in Boshamer Gymnasium. The Tornados will look to avenge a 78-57 loss to Wingate in Cuddy Arena on January 19th.
