Brevard, N.C.- Brevard’s Micheala Watkins scored a game-high 22 points, including the 1,000th of her career in game’s final seconds, to lead the Tornados past Tusculum College 60-56 in BC's season finale in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
Watkins became the Tornados 6th 1,000-point scorer on a pair of free throws with just over 13 seconds remaining in the game, giving BC a six-point lead and effectively putting the game out of reach for the Pioneers. The senior also had five steals.
The Tornados erased a six-point deficit early in the second half thanks to a 9-0 run consisting of three’s from Asheley Watkins, Micheala Watkins and Tempestt Mack to give the Tornados a 41-38 lead with 13:12 left in the game.
After several lead changes, the Pioneers took a 52-50 lead on two free throws from Nequoiah Anderson at 4:07 before BC's Shelby Wolfe tied the game at 52-52 on a jumper at 3:24.
Micheala Watkins gave BC the lead for good on a bucket with 2:32 left in the game as Brevard closed the game on a 10-4 run. The contest saw 12 ties and 16 lead changes.
Freshman Tuccoa Brackett chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Tornados, while Mack finished with nine points and three rebounds.
Asheley Watkins fittingly dished out a career-high seven assists in her final game in a Brevard uniform, and finished her tenure with the Tornados 2nd all-time in assists.
Watkins, Mack, and Watkins along with fellow seniors Candice Fritz, Alyssa Cutshaw and Katelynne Poole were honored in a ceremony after the game to celebrate their careers at Brevard.
