Brevard, N.C.- Brevard College Women’s Soccer Coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara is pleased to announce the addition of four commitments to the 2013 Brevard College Tornados women’s soccer team as Alyssa Bois, Kaitlin Burns, Kelly Turbeville and Kasi Benskin have committed play for the Tornados in 2013.
Bois is a center midfielder out of Leonard, Maryland, who played under Jennifer Henderson at Leonardtown High School. There Bois was voted Team Captain and Most Outstanding Player as a senior. Bois was also a First Team All-County and First Team All-SMAC selection. Bois also played basketball for Leonardtown HS, where she earned the Coaches Award and was named Senior Captain. In the classroom, Bois was a four-year Honor Roll student.
"Alyssa Bois is a very resilient and strong player, which will help her be a key role for us in the midfield. It was very enjoyable to watch her play club ball because she is very dynamic both in the midfield and defensive roles. I am looking forward to see her play soon."
The Tornados have also signed Kaitlin Burns, a forward out of Lawndale, North Carolina. Burnsplayed under Clint Shuford at Burns High School, where she made the All-Region Team for Region 10 as a senior. Burns was also a three-year starter and letter winner for the basketball team at Burns. Off the field, Burns was a member of the National Technical Honor Society.
"Kaitlin Burns is a natural striker. She has a nose for the goal, but is very calm and composed on the ball. When she is in scoring range she is very dangerous, and I have been looking for a striker like this for a long time. I am very excited to see her in the attacking third and what she can do for us."
Coach Shinohara had this to say about commit Kelly Turbeville, a forward out of Columbia, South Carolina. “I was very impressed when she came on a visit. People might think she is undersized, but her speed makes up for it and it will give her a big advantage. She is a utility player so her speed and skill allows her to play anywhere on the field for us. Her character off the field really helped me enjoy her even more.”
Turbeville attended Heathwood Hall. Under caoch Curtis Player, Turberville was named Team Captain in 2011 and 2012, and earned All-Region honors both season. She also played golf and basketball, and she was named the team captain of the high school team as well in 2012-2013.
The fourth addition to Tornados roster is Kasi Benskin, a member of the BC women’s golf team and transfer from Erskine College. Benskin tallied a goal and four assists for the Flying Fleet in her career with the Flying Fleet. As a Team Captain at East Lincoln HS, Benskin set the single-season scoring record in 2009, and was a four-year SPC All-Conference selection, a three-year All-Region selection and. She was named Team MVP and Mustang Award winner after 2009 NC State Games.
“Kasi is an experienced college player who I actually recruited when she was in high school. Her experienced as a forward will be a positive impacted to this team and her experience at Erskine will be a great addition,” Coach Shinohara said. “I’m looking forward to her leadership on and off the field. Her time here at Brevard will be short but she has already showed a great desire to this program and her teammates here.”
