Hilton Head, S.C.- The Brevard College men’s tennis team closed out their annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head with a 5-4 win over Findlay on Friday, adding to a 7-2 win over Ashford on Tuesday to put BC at 2-2 for the week.
The Tornados defeated the University of Findlay on Friday to cap the trip thanks in part to wins in doubles and singles by George Finch, who defeated Findlay’s Matt Smith 6-4 and 6-1 before teaming with Rory Northam to defeat Josh Smedley and Yannick Mohring 9-8 on the no. 2 doubles court.
BC also benefitted from singles wins from Johannes Kloster on the no. 1 court, David Taggart on the no. 2 court, and Stefano Giovanolli on court no. 4 in the win over Findlay.
On Wednesday the Tornados lost a hard-fought 6-3 match to Florida Tech. The Tornados performed well in singles competition as Taggart, Northam and Finch each picked up individual wins, but the Panthers swept doubles competition.
In the commanding 7-2 victory over Ashford on Tuesday, Taggart and Kloster handled Kyle Deckard and Carlos 8-2 on doubles court no. 1, while Finch and Northam defeated Alvaro Merino and Diego Aviles 9-7 on doubles court no. 2.
Kloster, Taggart, Northam, Finch and Giovanolli all clinched victories in their individual matches against Ashford.
BC dropped their opener to Palm Beach Atlantic 7-2 on Monday despite a pair of wins from Taggart, who beat Giuseppe Guarnieri 6-4 and 6-2 on singles court no. 2 before teaming with Kloster to edge Mark Heimberger and Matt Leeds 8-6 on doubles court no. 1.
The Tornados return to action as they visit Queens College on Wednesday March 13th for a match with the Royals at 1 p.m.
