Brevard, N.C.- Eric Renegar’s two-run single in the bottom of the 8th inning capped BC’s rally from a 3-0 deficit to start the game to give the Brevard College baseball team a 6-5 win over the Winston-Salem State Rams on Tuesday afternoon at Gil Coan Field.
The Rams took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 7th on a run-scoring double before Renegar’s two-out single down the left field line scored Chris Christopoulos and Champ Stuart to give BC the lead.
Chas Welch came in to pitch for BC in the 9th, inducing a fly ball to right for the first out before walking back-to-back hitters. Righty Zach Huneycutt (S, 1) came in for the final two outs to earn his first save of the season.
Alex Litaker (W, 1-1) was the pitcher of record when the Tornados took the lead in the 8th, tossing 2.2 innings in relief of BC starter Nick Blackwood. Litaker allowed a run on two hits in the appearance.
Brevard tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the 5th on three straight RBI singles from Renegar, Cody Queen and John Slade.
The Rams took the lead right back in the 6th on a Paco Martin RBI double before the Tornados again tied the game, this time at 4-4 on an Aaron Goforth RBI single in the bottom of the 6th.
