Brevard, N.C. – Micheala Watkins of the women’s basketball team and Kevin Hamilton of the baseball team have been named the Sports Spot Student-Athletes of the Month for February. The award is presented by Sports Spot, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.
Watkins was voted the Female Student-Athlete of the Month by the BC Head Coaching staff over teammate Shelby Wolfe and Alyssa Miller of the softball team.
The senior wins her fourth career Athlete of the Month award after averaging 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 4.4 steals per game in February. Watkins highlighted the month with a career-high 29 points in a 73-53 win over Catawba on February 6th.
Hamilton was voted the Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month by the BC Head Coaching staff over Miles Leather of the men’s basketball team and Kim Koivu of the men’s golf team.
Hamilton wins his first career Athlete of the Month award after winning all three of his starts in February, compiling a 3-0 record with a 2.25 ERA. The righty got BC a win in both the season opener against Young Harris on 2/8 and the South Atlantic Conference opener on 2/15 against Lenoir-Rhyne, while collecting 20 strikeouts.
These two athletes will be presented with action shots recognizing their award, which will be displayed in the lobby of Boshamer Gymnasium for the entire school year. A total of eight female and male Sports Spot Athletes of the Month will be selected in the 2012-2013 academic year. The award is selected from qualified candidates each month by the athletic department staff.
