BC FALLS TO BELMONT ABBEY, 3-1

BC looks to rebound against King on Saturday

BELMONT, N.C. – Brevard College freshman Ryan Mcphillps netted his first collegiate goal, but it wasn’t enough as Belmont Abbey responded with three unanswered goals to defeat Brevard, 3-1, Wednesday evening in Belmont, N.C.

Brevard (1-1-0) grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Mcphillips bested Belmont Abbey (2-1-0) goalkeeper Kyle Searles in the 5th minute to provide the Tornados with an early advantage.

In the 14th minute, Mark Dandanell knotted the score at one when received a feed from Conor Wells. Belmont Abbey took a lead it’d never relinquish in the 30th minute when Declan McQuillan scored to make it a 2-1 match.

The Crusaders added an additional goal in the 83rd minute when Ameer Pinto split two defenders to extend Belmont Abbey’s lead to 3-1.

The Tornados have dropped six consecutive matches to the Crusaders. Freshman goalkeeper Heath Turner recorded three saves, which all came in the second half. BC was outshot 8-3 in the first half.

The Tornados look to bounce back when they take on King Saturday at 4 p.m. in Brevard N.C.
