CONYERS, Ga.-The Brevard College cycling team was in action over the race weekend at a Southeastern Conference race hosted by Georgia Tech. 

Cypress Gorry claimed 3rd place in the Men's A Omnium while Blake Stephenson won the Men's B Omnium. Erica Zaveta placed 2nd in the Women’s A Omnium category and was joined by Sarah Hill on the podium in 5th.  Courtney Carter took 2nd in the Women’s B Omnium.

To cap the weekend, the Omnium was a category offering an overall podium for the racing weekend.  This category included each individual riders' points from each race and compiled them in this overall result.  and.  For the women, Saturday's racing for the Tornados began with the short track event on a very spectator-friendly race course.  The racing was extremely fast across all categories, and each race offered exciting, non-stop action, with constant lead changes.

In the Men's A race, Brevard had one of the best team races of the 2013 season.  Zach Valdez stormed across the finish line in 2nd place, followed closely by Gorry in 3rd, and Lewis Gaffney in 4th.  Also scoring top-10 finishes were Spencer Lowden and Dylan Johnson in 8th and 9th, respectively. 

The Men's B event followed as Stephenson hammered his way to the first short track win of his BC career.  Regis Bryer contributed to the team's successful weekend with a great 2nd place finish in the Men's C short track.

On the women's side, the A race saw a big win for Brevard's Erica Zaveta, followed by Hill’s 5th place finish and Nicole Miranda’s 8th.  In the B race, Liza Fortenberry and Courtney Carter rode to 4th and 5th place, respectively.

Saturday afternoon brought the dual slalom events, where riders competed in the head-to-head race on a course that was extremely fast and dry.
In the Men's A category, Mac Banner put together an amazing ride to take home his first win of the season.  Gorry followed closely in 4th, Zach Miller in 9th, and Gaffney rounding out the top 10.  In the Men's B, Blake was able to overcome some mechanical issues to finish on the podium in 3rd.

On the women's side, Brevard had a great showing as Hill and Zaveta placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Miranda finished in the top 10 at 7th, and Carter captured 1st in the B category.

Sunday morning featured the cross country races on a course with loose terrain and difficult climbs.  The Men's A category was yet another great display of team racing by the Tornados.  Zach Valdez brought  home the first Men's A cross country win of the season, followed by Gorry in 2nd.  Johnson and Lowden continued their great weekends with a 7th and 8th place finish, respectively. 

In the B race, Stephenson also continued his strong racing to finish 2nd.

For the women, Zaveta rode to yet another great win in the cross country.  Hill joined her in the top 10 (5th).  In the B's, Fortenberry finished 4th for another top-five finish for the Tornados.

The Tornados next compete in Conference races hosted by Clemson University September 28-29th.
