BREVARD, N.C.-The Brevard College Tornados fell in straight sets to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne in South Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday night in Boshamer Gymnasium.
The Bears took the match by scores of 25-17, 25-21, and 25-20 to improve to 8-4 (5-3 SAC), while BC drops to 4-9 (1-8 SAC).
Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the opening set, later cushioning their lead with a 5-0 run to make it 14-7. BC played the Bears evenly for the remainder of the set but were unable to pick up much ground, falling 25-17.
The Bears erased a 6-3 BC lead to open the set with a 6-1 run to go in front 9-7. Following three ties BC used a 4-1 run to regain the lead at 15-13.
The Bears responded with four straight points and never relinquished the lead on their way to a 25-21 set win.
BC staged a comeback in the third set, recovering from a 12-2 deficit with eight unanswered points to pull within a point at 17-16.
After a Megan Meyer service ace again brought BC within a point at 19-18, the Bears smothered the rally with a 6-2 run to close out the match win.
Brevard continues their three-game home stand on Friday night as they host the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters in Boshamer Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
