LMU RALLIES PAST BC IN DIG PINK GAME

BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College Tornados grabbed a 25-16 win in the opening set and held a lead in the second set before the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters rallied for a 3-1 win in Boshamer Gymnasium on Friday night.

The Railsplitters took the match by scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-16, and 25-19.

With the opening set tied 15-15, the Tornados compiled an 11-1 run to grab the opening set in lopsided fashion. Fatima Gharachorloo, who finished with eight kills, had three during the run.

Back-to-back kills by BC freshman Savannah Cox gave BC a 15-10 lead in the second set before LMU mounted their comeback. The Railsplitters answered with a 6-1 run to tie the game a 16-16.

After a back-and-forth battle that saw BC take a 22-21 lead, LMU took four of the next five points to even the game at 1-1.

The Railsplitters took a 6-3 lead to open the third set after five unanswered points, and never relinquished that lead on their way to taking a 2-1 lead.

The Tornados didn’t go quietly in the fourth set, establishing a 12-10 lead after an LMU service error. However, the Lady Railsplitters grabbed the reins behind a 10-3 run, taking a 20-15 lead.

BC got two points back with consecutive kills from Joy Oswalt and Erin Rollins, but LMU’s Jazzy Oates eventually closed the match with a kill.

Rollins paced BC with 14 kills while Cox finished with 10.

The Tornados sported pink uniforms for their annual Dig Pink game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Tornados continue their three-game home stand Saturday afternoon as they host the Carson-Newman Eagles in Boshamer Gymnasium at 12 p.m.
