MORRISTOWN, Tenn.- The Brevard College men’s golf team earned their best finish of the fall, a 3rd at the Walters State Fall Golf Classic earlier this week, thanks to an All-Tournament finish by Oskar Lundgren.
The freshman carded a 147 (+3) to finish in 5th place individually in the two-day tournament held at The Country Club in Morristown. Lundgren shot an impressive 70 (-2) on Tuesday after opening play with a 77 (+5) on Monday.
The Tornados excelled as a group on the second day, shooting a team-low 294 when no other team shot below a 300.
Luis Vega and Sebastian Strehl also both finished in the top 10, placing 8th and 10th, respectively. Vega carded a 75 (+3) on Monday and a 74 (+2) on Tuesday while Strehl shot a 79 (+7) on the first day but recovered with a par performance (72) on day two.
All three Tornados who finished in the top 10 were freshman. Brevard’s freshman class is ranked 5th in Division II golf this fall by Golfstat.
"The freshmen really stepped up this tournament,” said head coach Dave Nelson. “Lundgren's top five finish was well deserved, and Vega also played very well. Strehl continued his stellar play this fall with another top 10 finish."
The Tornados steadily improved this fall, posting their two best team finishes in their final two tournaments after taking 5th in the State Farm Intercollegiate last week.
"I'm very pleased with our results this fall, we continued to improve as a team ,” added Nelson. “As we gained experience, our scores got better. I'm confident we will surprise people this spring, particularly at conference."
