The Tornados battle Coastal Carolina tomorrow evening

GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Brevard College women's basketball team fell to Southern Conference representative, Furman in an exhibition game, 79-31, Tuesday evening at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.

The Paladins (1-1) shot 53.4% on the evening while knocking out eight three-pointers on the evening. The Tornados struggled from the field while shooting 24% (12-of-50) while three players led the team with six points a piece.

Furman took command of the game early, jumping out to a 16-4 lead in the first six-and-a-half minutes of the game. The Tornados responded with a 6-0 run to make it a 16-10 game thanks to buckets from Hadara Bannister, Taylor Hiatt and Tuccoa Brackett.

However, the Paladins produced another 16-4 run going into the half with a 32-14 game.

FU knocked down five three-pointers in the first 20 minutes while BC went 0-7 from long distance.

Head coach Shannon Reid's squad hit a trey to start the second half, but Furman rattled off a 15-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Shelby Wolfe connected on a pair of free-throws with 12:08 remaining to make it a 53-21 game. The Paladins would finish the game on a 26-10 run.

FU's Shianne Goodwin paced both squads with 12 points while teammate Holli Wilkins went 5-for-7 from the field and accumulated 11 points. The Paladins Savonia Bryan grabbed 12 boards while the Furman held a 49-25 advantage on the glass.

The trio of Bannister, Brackett and senior Chezney McJunkin paced the Tornados with six points apiece. Bannister led the team with five boards while Brackett swatted three shots on the night.

BC committed 22 turnovers while forcing 20. Furman hit eight three-pointers while BC connected on three.

The Tornados wrapup a difficult three-game three-day stretch when they visit Coastal Carolina Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
