The Tornados exacted revenge for last season's lost

BREVARD, N.C.- Sophomore Shelby Wolfe paced the Brevard College women’s basketball team with 22 points while four other Tornados registered double figures while BC dropped Pfeiffer, 79-69, in nonconference action Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gymnasium in Brevard, N.C.

The Tornados (2-3) picked up their second consecutive victory and poured in a season-high 79 points including a 47-point effort in the first half while forcing 17 turnovers. The Falcons (1-6) dropped their third consecutive game and will finish winless (0-4) against SAC opponents this season.

PU jumped out to an early 11-6 lead, but Wolfe took over and rattled off five straight points with a pair of layups and a free-throw to knot it at 11.

Both teams came out on fire while the game recorded four ties in the first 6:32 and the score was 15 apiece.

BC would rattle off a 25-13 run over the next six plus minutes thanks to a seven-point outburst from freshman Madison Lenox while the Tornados would knock down 9-of-10 from the charity stripe during the run.

BC held a healthy 47-36 lead into the half after Hadara Bannister runner beat the buzzer while the Tornados dominated in the paint, 18-8, in the first half.

Wolfe was nearly unstoppable, accumulating 16 points and seven boards with a pair of assists and a block while BC shot 60% from the floor in the first 20 minutes.

After a sluggish beginning to the second half by both squads, a pair of free throws from PU’s Ariana Tillman cut the BC lead to eight, but the Tornados responded with a 7-0 run to take a 62-47 lead at the 8:03 mark.

However, the Falcons responded with a 7-0 run of their own before Lynsey Crisp corralled a rebound and got a bucket on the putback to keep the lead at 10.

Both squads exchanged buckets while PU was able to make it a seven-point game with 1:15 on the clock, but a three-point play from Chelsea Turner pushed the Tornado lead back to a dozen, 79-67 with 23 ticks left.

BC held a clear advantage at the free-throw line by knocking down 21-of-28, compared to PU’s 9-of-13.

The Falcons Hollie Boggs paced the squad with a 21-point performance while Tillman led the team in rebounds with 10. Alexis Stallard (18) and Carter Williams (11) had double figure performances.

BC’s Wolfe led the team in points and rebounds (11) while Lenox (13), Bannister (13), Taylor Hiatt (10) and Katie Williams (10) had double digit efforts. BC racked up 13 assists compared to 10 turnovers.

The Tornados shot a season-best 51.0% from the floor while Turner led both teams with four steals.

BC returns to action Wednesday, Dec. 4 when it hosts Lenoir-Rhyne in a South Atlantic Conference battle with action slated to begin at 6 p.m. in Boshamer Gymnasium.
