BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s basketball team will welcome the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears to Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday night for a South Atlantic Conference matchup slated for 8 p.m.
The Tornados (1-4, 1-2 SAC) look to make it two straight conference wins after trampling Tusculum 95-73 on Tuesday night in Pioneer Arena. The 22-point victory represents the largest margin of victory for Brevard over a SAC opponent since joining the conference as full members for the 2008-2009 season.
Dominique Pickett and Miles Leathers set career highs in the scoring column while Darius Moose dished out a career-high 10 assists in the win.
Both Pickett and Moose enter Wednesday’s game averaging 18.0 points per game, which is tied for 9th in the league in scoring. Moose also cracks the top ten in rebounding, pulling down 7.2 rebounds per game (8th).
The Tornados are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country this season, ranking 4th in three-point field goals per game (12.4) and 10th in field goal percentage (45.3). BC leads the conference in both categories.
BC is coming off a loss to Division I Furman University on Saturday, but saw freshman Trevon Shaw (17 points) and Harrison White (13 points) put forth their most productive offensive games since arriving on campus.
The Bears (3-2, 2-1 SAC) are looking to rebound from a 73-59 loss on the road to the Wingate Bulldogs on Tuesday night. L-R began their conference schedule with wins over Queens and Anderson.
RJ McClure is averaging 23.2 points per game this season, which is the second in the SAC in scoring. The senior guard is 40-for-41 from the free throw line this season.
No other Bear is scoring in double figures this season, and L-R is 11th in the league in scoring offense. Lenoir-Rhyne was selected to finish 7th in the SAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
Lenoir-Rhyne swept last year’s season series, narrowly escaping Brevard with a 70-64 victory on January 12th before taking round two 71-60 in Hickory on February 16th. The series is tied 5-5 since BC joined the SAC.
