BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s basketball team pulled to within a point of Catawba late in the second half but eventually fell 85-79 to the Indians in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The Tornados (3-9, 3-5 SAC) engineered a 10-1 run to cut Catawba’s lead to 78-77 on a pair of free throws from Darius Moose with 2:15 remaining in the game. The Indians (4-8, 4-4 SAC) responded with a 7-2 run to close the game and hold on for the win.
Trailing 77-67 with 4:28 left in the game, Miles Leathers sparked BC's run with a three-point play before Moose scored the next seven points for BC. The Indians, however, iced the win by going 7-for-8 from the foul line over the final 1:22.
Moose poured in a game-high 32 points for the Tornados, finishing 12-of-19 from the floor and hitting all six of his three throw attempts.
Leathers finished with 15 points while adding four rebounds and a pair of steals. Jake Pifer also tallied 15 points for BC, a season-high for the sophomore transfer.
Six Indians scored in double figures in the win, paced by 18 points from Kijuan Arrington.
The Tornados are on the road on Wednesday as they visit the Holt Fieldhouse for an 8 p.m. tipoff with the Carson-Newman Eagles.
