BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard college women’s basketball sophomore Shelby Wolfe and men’s basketball freshman Trevon Shaw have been named the Sports Spot Student-Athletes of the Month for December. The award is presented by Sports Spot, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.
Wolfe was voted the Female Student-Athlete of the Month by the BC Head Coaching staff over teammates Madison Lenox and Katie Williams.
The sophomore started all four games in December, averaging 8.5 points and 4.5 rebounds for the month. Wolfe had 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds against Cameron in the AT&T Hoops Classic.
Shaw claims the Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month award by besting teammates Miles Leathers and Darius Moose.
Shaw averaged 18.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while scoring in double figures in all four games in December. The Buford, Georgia native shot a scorching 67.6 percent (25-for-37) from the field, and hit 18-of-25 attempts (72.0 percent) from three-point range. Shaw scored a season-high 25 points against Fayetteville State, and added a team-high six rebounds against the Citadel.
These two athletes will be presented with action shots recognizing their award, which will be displayed in the lobby of Boshamer Gymnasium for the entire school year. A total of eight female and male Sports Spot Athletes of the Month will be selected in the 2013-2014 academic year. The award is selected from qualified candidates each month by the athletic department staff.
