CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Brevard College softball team swept a doubleheader from the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls to open their 2014 season on Friday evening at Biddleville Park, taking both games in 8-0 in run-rule shortened games.
Game 1: Brevard 8, JCSU 0
The Tornados got their offense going with an RBI single by Casey Whitaker in the 3rd, which sparked a four-run inning for BC. Jillian Gleeson made it 3-0 with a two-run double and came around to score on an RBI single by Emily Boykin.
The Tornados added a run in the 4th on a Dallas Heaton run-scoring single, and three more in the 5th to make it 8-0.
Brevard starter Jamie Hrobak (W, 1-0) baffled the Golden Bulls, allowing only two hits while striking out eight in five innings in the circle for BC.
Game 2: Brevard 8, JCSU 0
Jamie Hrobak (W, 2-0) was masterful in the second game, holding JCSU to just one hit and a pair of walks in five innings in the circle for the Tornados.
Brevard took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd on a Michelle Ray infield single that scored Kinsey Parrish. BC then erupted for six runs in the 3rd, thanks to two-run doubles by Heaton and Ray. Ally Davenport and Alyssa Miller also singled in runs.
Ray added an RBI single in the top of the 5th as the Tornados cruised to the victory.
The Tornados host a doubleheader with Lees-McRae College Saturday afternoon for their home opener. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
