TIGERVILLE, S.C.-The Brevard College softball team was swept by the North Greenville Crusaders at Pepsi Field on Tuesday afternoon, falling 9-0 in the opener and 10-2 in the nightcap.
Game 1: NGU 9, Brevard 0
North Greenville starter Rachel Glazebrook allowed just three base runners in five innings in the run-rule shortened loss. Alyssa Miller led off the game with an infield single but the Tornados managed just two more hits in the game.
Brevard starter Jamie Hrobak (L, 2-1) held the Crusaders scoreless through four innings before the Tornados came unraveled in the fifth inning, allowing nine runs. Only three of the runs were earned as the Tornados committed three errors in the final inning.
Hrobak was charged with seven runs, only three of which were earned, before she was lifted in favor Casey Whitaker. The righty was unable to get the final three outs before NGU scored two more runs to end the game.
Game 2: NGU 10, Brevard 2
The Tornados struck first in game two as Casey Whitaker singled in Brittany Fowler from second before the Crusaders responded with eight runs in the home half of the 1st of the run-rule shortened loss.
BC starter Jillian Gleeson (L, 0-1) allowed six runs (four earned) in just a third of an inning before being relieved by Whitaker, who was charged with four runs (three earned) over the final 3.2 innings. The Crusaders collected 12 hits while BC committed three costly errors.
Michelle Ray singled up the middle to score Lauren Parker in the 2nd, but the Tornados couldn’t get any more offense going over the final three innings as NGU added runs in the 2nd and 4th.
The Tornados look to rebound on Wednesday afternoon as they visit the Pfeiffer Falcons for a doubleheader at Jack Ingram Field.
