BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard college women’s basketball sophomore Katie Williams and men’s basketball junior Darius Moose have been named the Sports Spot Student-Athletes of the Month for January. The award is presented by Sports Spot, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.
Williams was voted the Female Student-Athlete of the Month by the BC Head Coaching staff over teammate Madison Lenox and cyclist Erica Zaveta.
The sophomore averaged 15.4 points and 2.4 rebounds for the month. The Robbinsville, N.C. native notched a career-high 31 points against Carson-Newman on Jan. 15th, and hit 42-of-48 attempts from the foul line for the month.
Moose claims his second Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month award this year by besting teammate Dominique Pickett and cyclist Lewis Gaffney.
Moose averaged 22.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while leading all scorers in four games in January. The Salisbury, N.C. native notched career highs in points (33) and rebounds (18) in the win over Tusculum on Jan. 8th to earn South Atlantic men’s basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 11.
These two athletes will be presented with action shots recognizing their award, which will be displayed in the lobby of Boshamer Gymnasium for the entire school year. A total of eight female and male Sports Spot Athletes of the Month will be selected in the 2013-2014 academic year. The award is selected from qualified candidates each month by the athletic department staff.
