BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College women’s lacrosse (0-1) team lost 18-0 against the Lees-McRae Bobcats (1-0) during their season opener on February 21st at Brevard Lacrosse Field.
Turnovers proved to be a determining factor for Brevard who tallied up nine during the first half turning into scoring opportunities for the Bobcats. At the 14:34 mark, BC’s Emily Klapthor forced a turnover on LMC’s Ximena Dupont only to turn it back over in an attempt to clear up field. Laura Wright passed the ball up field to teammate Kirsten English for the goal.
Lees-McRae racked up five goals in the first five minutes of the game setting Brevard behind. The Bobcats Jenah Tracy received the ball off the first draw to place a goal into the corner of the net past Tornados keeper Brianna Bangle.
Jenah Tracy continued to find the back of the net leading her team with five goals and two assists while teammate Katelin Rooney added four goals of her own.
Goalkeeper, Brianna Bangle saw a lot of action during the game and posted up 15 saves compared to Lees-McRae goalie Mia Emmerson who faced only 2 shots by Brevard midfielder Julia Gasston.
“It was a learning experience for us and the girls can now know what they need to work on,” spoke Head Coach Frank Rogers, “We look forward to working and improving each game.”
The women’s lacrosse team will host their second game of the season on Tuesday, February 25 at 4:00 p.m.
