Brevard, N.C. - Coach Britne' Stubbs and the Brevard softball team are pleased to announce the commitment of two new players. Brittany Jones and Nicole Heusel will continue their academic and athletic careers at Brevard in the fall of 2009.

Jones, an outfielder, comes to Brevard from Fort Mill, S.C. Jones will graduate from Nation Ford High School in the spring of 2009. Coached by Michael Kidd, Jones batted .410 for Nation Ford in 2008 and won the team's hustle award. Jones also plays volleyball and basketball at Nation Ford, and is the daughter of Randy and Julie Jones. Jones plays club softball for the Charlotte Cobras under head coach Marci Turso.

"Brittany is a true centerfielder and is very strong at tracking down just about anything that is hit in her direction," Stubbs said of her new outfielder. "We look for her speed in the outfield and her discipline at the plate to be a very tough force to reckon with.”

Heusel joins the Brevard family from Lawrenceville, Ga. A second basemen for Collins Hill High School, Heusel batted .341 in 2008 and was named to the All-Region 7-AAAAA team in Georgia. Heusel is coached by Billy Dooley; she is the daughter of Chris and Katie Heusel.

"Nicole was a big contributor to her team her senior year," Dooley said of his pupil. "Not only is she a fine softball player, she is even finer young lady.  Brevard is lucky to add such a well-rounded student-athlete."

"Not only is Nicole a great player on the field, she is also an excellent student," Stubbs said. "She will bring a lot of hard work and determination and that is exactly what we need. She is fundamentally sound at the second base position and will add a strong bat to the lineup.”
