AIKEN, S.C.- The Brevard College softball team stifled USC Aiken in a 2-1 victory in the nightcap to earn the split at J.H. Satcher Field on Saturday afternoon after falling 7-0 in the opener.
Game 1: USCA 7, Brevard 0
The Pacers got to BC starter Casey Whitaker (L, 2-4) for four runs in the 2nd and added three more runs over the next two innings. Whitaker allowed seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and a walk over 3.1 innings before Alyssa Miller tossed the final 2.2 innings.
BC struggled against Aiken’s India Kornegay (W, 10-0), who limited BC to one hit while striking out eight in the complete-game effort. The righty has allowed just six earned runs over 65.2 innings this season.
BC's Kinny Davis was responsible for the Tornados lone hit, an infield single in the 5th.
Game 2: Brevard 2, USCA 1
Alyssa Miller (W, 2-3) and Jamie Hrobak (S, 1) combined to shut out the Pacers over the final six innings, and didn’t allow an earned run in the game after Aiken scored on a throwing error in the 1st. The pair allowed just five hits on the afternoon.
Lauren Parker scored the winning run for BC in the 5th after reaching on a bunt single and stealing second. Parker moved to third on a Dallas Heaton groundout and scored on a wild pitch by Aiken’s Taylor Morgan (L, 5-4).
The Tornados tied the game in the 4th on Ally Davenport’s RBI fielder’s choice groundball, which scored Whitaker.
Hrobak, who allowed just one hit over the final three innings, retired the side in order in the bottom of the 5th after BC took the lead in their half of the inning.
The Tornados are back in action on Monday as they play their rescheduled doubleheader at Milligan College. First pitch from Anglin Field is set for 1 p.m.
