ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.-The Tornados rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the 7th inning on their way to a win in extras in the opener before falling 6-3 to Milligan College in game two of their doubleheader on Monday afternoon.
Game 1: Brevard 3, Milligan 2 (8 innings)
Ally Davenport’s groundball in the top of the 8th scored Lauren Parker, who was on 2nd to start the inning per International Tie Breaker rules, for the deciding run in the game one victory.
Jillian Gleeson dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move Parker to third for the first out of the inning.
The Tornados tied the game at 2-2 on Kinny Davis’ single through the left side. Hanna Huckabee scored the tying run after getting things started with one out on a single through the right side, and moving to second on Alyssa Miller’s single to left.
Jamie Hrobak (W, 7-4) threw all eight innings for the Tornados, scattering six hits and a walk while fanning six. The sophomore retired the side in order in the 8th after a runner was placed on second to start the inning for the Buffaloes.
Game 2: Milligan 6, Brevard 3
Milligan jumped on Miller (L, 2-4) for four runs (two earned) over the first two innings, although the righty was pulled with two runners on and nobody out in the 2nd. Hrobak came in for the final five innings, holding the Buffaloes to two runs (one earned) over the duration of the game.
After the Tornados made it a 5-3 game in the top of the 6th with a pair of runs on an error and a RBI triple by Miller, Milligan added an insurance run in their half of the 6th before BC went down in order in the 7th.
BC scored their first run of the game in the 2nd on a Kinsey Parrish single up the middle.
The Tornados are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they open South Atlantic Conference play at Newberry. First pitch from the Smith Road Complex is set for 1 p.m.
