BREVARD, N.C.-The Brevard College baseball team erupted for five runs in the 1st and three more in the 4th on their way to an 8-3 win over the North Greenville Crusaders at Gil Coan Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Back-to-back singles and a hit batsman loaded the bases for BC with no outs to get things started in the top of the 1st. Eric Eric Renegar, who reached on an infield single, scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1 after NGU scored in the top of the 1st.
Brock Helton later made it 2-1 with a sacrifice fly to score Proffitt, who singled through the left side behind Renegar.
Tyler Tant’s two-run single to right put BC in front 4-1 before Blaine Durham capped the inning with an RBI double to right.
The Tornados added three insurance runs in the 4th on a North Greenville fielding error that allowed two runs to score and a John Slade RBI single up the middle.
North Greenville scored an unearned run against BC starter Hunter Donaldson (W, 2-1) in the top of the 1st before the righty shut the Crusaders out for the next five innings. Dustin Haithcox and Bennett Hixson each threw a scoreless inning in relief before NGU got to Chad Fisher for two runs (one earned) in the 9th.
The Tornados resume South Atlantic Conference play as they host the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears for a three-game series this weekend at Gil Coan Field. The first pitch of the opener is set for 3 p.m. on Friday.
