NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Brevard College (1-7, 0-1 SAC) men’s tennis team lost 5-4 while traveling for their first South Atlantic Conference match up against the Newberry Wolves (5-4, 3-2 SAC) on Tuesday, March 11.
David Taggart and Christoph Plasa took their singles matches to three sets, with Taggart downing Newberry's previously undefeated Vinicius Botelho.
Taggart played in the No.1 singles position, winning the first 7-5 then falling 4-6 in the second. The extra set resulted in a point for the Tornados when Taggart came back with a win at 9-6.
Plasa got caught in extra sets after splitting with Carlos Nicolopulos, losing the first 7-5 and rebounding with a 7-5 win in set two. The freshman was unable to carry his momentum into the final set, losing 6-0.
Nathan Sabate won No.2 singles over Fernando Espana 6-4, 6-0 after losing in doubles with partner Guilherme Prophiro 8-6 in the No.3 spot.
Guilherme and George Finch rounded out the match with their wins in the No.5 and No.6 singles spots but were unable to gain the overall win for BC.
Brevard travels to Rock Hill, S.C. to compete against Winthrop at 9 a.m on Friday.
