Indianapolis, Ind. - The Brevard College men's basketball team is listed among the nation's elite NCAA Division II teams in several statistical categories this week.
Coach Michael Jones' team is at the top of the South Atlantic Conference in Field Goal Percentage Defense and Rebounding Margin. Holding opponents to 38.3% shooting on the season, Brevard (10-9, 2-7 SAC) is sixth in the nation in Field Goal Perecentage Defense. The Tornados have outrebounded their opponents by 9.7 boards per game, ninth in all of Division II.
Individually, junior forward Jonathan Whitson (Clyde, N.C.) leads the South Atlantic Conference in rebounding, snaring 8.9 per game. That average is good for 32nd in the nation. Whitson averages 18.7 points per game, tied for third in the SAC and 53rd in the nation.
Junior guard Cody Siniard (Brevard, N.C.) has hit a trio of three-point field goals in each of Brevard's last two games and now tops the SAC in Three-Point Field Goal Percentage. Siniard has drained 54.3% of his outside shots on the season.
Brevard hosts Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday night at 8 p.m. and travels to Harrogate, Tenn. on Saturday for another 8 p.m. game, against Lincoln Memorial.
