Charlotte, N.C. - Coach Paul Thomson’s women’s tennis team got back on track on Saturday afternoon, defeating Queens University of Charlotte, 6-3.
The Tornados (4-1, 0-1 SAC) took two of the three doubles points as Lindsay Hostetter and Kayley Duval took the No. 2 match against Hewitt Hawn and Katherine Winship, 8-1, and Jennifer Nyman and Merek Slagle won the No. 3 match against Amanda LaRocco and Amanda O’Neal, 8-5. Lindsay Shaeffer and Kim Dixon dropped the top match against the Royals duo of Elena Mileva and Kaitlyn Blakey, 9-7.
In the singles portion of the match, Brevard took four of the six matches. Hostetter and Duval continued to win, as Hostetter took the No. 2 point against Blakey, 6-3, 6-2, and Duval took Hawn in straight sets for the No. 3 point, 6-0, 6-2. Dixon rebounded from her doubles loss to win the battle at No. 5 over Wimship, 6-1, 6-3, and Sara Douglas won in the No. 6 matchup, 6-1, 6-2 over O’Neal.
Shaeffer and Mileva battled in the matchup between No. 1’s with Royal’s Mileva coming out on top 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, and LaRocca scored the other point for Queens in the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-2.
Brevard’s next match is at home on Tuesday, February 24th as the Tornados host Western Carolina. The teams take to the courts at 1 p.m. Queens next match is Sunday, February 22nd as they host Chowan University at noon.
