Hilton Head, S.C. - The Brevard College tornados stayed perfect on their spring break venture to the South Carolina coast Wednesday with a 9-0 thrashing of the West Liberty State Hilltoppers. Brevard (8-2) has yet to drop a match on the trip.
The Tornados started the day on the right foot with three wins in pairs action. Konstantin Savelyev and Cole Altizer doubled up their Hilltopper opponents, Alex Fager and Jandir Santin Junior, 8-4 in the top flight, and Jarred Fisher and Heikki Riikonen did not drop a game to Tim Sylvester and Tyler McCullough, 8-0. Andrew Thompson and Nate Lyles finished the pairs matches with an 8-2 victory over Darren Fields and Rick Thaxton, 8-2.
In singles, Brevard again swept the Hilltoppers (2-3). Savelyev downed Santin Junior in the top flight, 6-3, 6-0 and Riikonen dispatched Fager in the second, 6-4, 6-2. Altizer rolled in the No. 3 match over Sylvester, 6-3, 6-0 and the fourth round was Thompson's 7-5, 6-3 over McCullough. Lyles took down Alex Conway at No. 5, 6-3, 6-0, and the final match was the domain of Shane Apps, 6-1, 6-0 over Andy Sickles.
Brevard concludes their bash at the beach Thursday with a match-up against North Carolina Central, while the 'Toppers face Charleston (W.Va.)
